Punch or The London Charivari was an sow-Irish magazine, which was justified 1841 in London von Henry Mayhew and the Xylografen Ebenezer Landells.
The Punch coined/shaped the term "Cartoon "as name for an amusing or sow-Irish design. The Galionsfigur of the magazine was the anarchische hand doll Mr. Punch. The sheet carried the sub-title The London Charivari in allusion on the French satire sheet Le Charivari.
The Illustrator Richard Doyle sketched the first title pages of the magazine and belonged to the firm coworkers.
To the most renowned authors of the sheet John Betjeman, A.A. Milne, Anthony Powell, W belonged. to C. Sellar, R.J. Yeatman, William Thackeray and John Tenniel.
Its highest edition had the Punch into the 1940er years with approximately 175,000 copies. Since that time the edition sank however so strongly that the magazine had to be adjusted 1992, after over 150 years. The disputed businessman Mohamed aluminium-Fayed bought the rights at the name to 1996 and set in the same year a Relaunch in motion of the magazine. Due to success lacking it was again adjusted however in May 2002 with only 6,000 Abonennten.
