The power station union (KWU) was responsible as subsidiary companies of Siemens and AEG for the building of power stations, in particular nuclear power stations. Locations were at the Ruhr, attaining, Berlin and open brook. The KWU stood often synonymously for the power station business of Siemens.

History
- KWU and the nuclear power station range of the AEG cooperate first starting from 1968, five years later the AEG Kernkraftsparte of the KWU are taken over. The location open brook becomes the second company center. Also the not nuclear power station business of Siemens goes to both nut/mother enterprises to the 1969 of the again-created KWU. In addition in the same year the transformers union (DO) is created by the companies. AEG had built boiling water reactors up to this time only based on the technology of the US company General Electric, while Siemens had built pressurized water reactors under license of Westinghouse.
- 1978 sell to AEG also the parts at the transformers union to the KWU, 1987 are completely carried out the assumption.
- into the 1980er years experiences the KWU its most successful time with the building of the so-called convoy reactor type. Abroad the KWU is among other things with the building of the nuclear power station in Switzerland, starting from 1974 with the destroyed the power station by Iraqi air raids with Buschir (Iran) as well as the heavy-water reactors Atucha I and Atucha II (the latter is not finished until today) engages. Also the only commercial nuclear power station in Austria, the nuclear power station Zwentendorf, never goes to the establishment through the KWU into enterprise. In Germany them are over participation also involved in the establishment different advanced reactors and research reactors, so e.g. in snapping breeder in Kalkar, the research reactor KNK II in Karlsruhe and the two research reactors FRM in Munich.
- SIEMENS SNP and PG: The KWU is integrated again into the Siemens company. The nuclear range is called now Siemens Nuclear power, the conventional power station and turbine range power generation.
- at beginning of the 1990er years begins the French Framatome as well as the nuclear power daughter of Siemens with the development of the European Pressurized Water Reactor (EPR). The German side is particularly responsible for the safety-relevant aspects (testing of materials etc.). Also the instrumentation (Siemens Teleperm) is developed from Germany.
- the political and public attitude to the nuclear power in Germany as well as the bad situation concerning orders - the nuclear power section of Siemens is nearly only in maintenance and fuel business active - lead to the decision the Siemens company point to separate the nuclear power business again and sell the majority portions.
- Framatome ANP GmbH - Siemens and the Framatome, a subsidiary company of the French company AREVA, form 2001 a joint venture: Siemens SNP is integrated into the Framatome ANP GmbH - the Siemens AG keeps a participation of approx. 34% in the GmbH.
- Power generation (PG) and power transmission and distribution (PTD) remain further integrated to 100% into the Siemens company as divisions.
