The Plexus submucosus (Meissner Plexus) is a part of the Enteri nervous system (intramurales nervous system), which belongs again to the vegetative nervous system. This concerns accumulations of ganglia and of them outgoing nerve fibers in the Submukosa, thus between the mucous membrane and the muscle layer of the wall of the digesting system. From the Plexus there are numerous connections to the Plexus myentericus.
The Plexus submucosus steers the secretion of the glands independently of stomach and intestine primarily of the ZNS. Besides movements of the epithelium of the intestine and immunological procedures are adjusted. However the Enteri nervous system is not perfectly independent. Over the Parasympathikus (increases) and Sympathikus (restrains) the activity of the Plexus and with it the secretion achievement can be affected.
