Playmobil is a system toy of the company geobra with seat in Zirndorf. The label name and the characteristic blue signature were developed by the artist and diagram designer Rainer Willingstorfer. Main element is 7.5 cm a large play figure made of plastic. Hands, arms and legs as well as the head can be moved and/or turned. To the hands can besides most diverse accessories such as tools, weapons etc. are stuck on.
1974 were brought to Playmobil as a child of the oil crisis on the market. At the system toy Playmobil had Hans Beck (* 6. May 1929, lives worked on the Bodensee, since 1998 in the retirement) since 1971 as only developers, but only as the rising oil prices one increased tenfold, dared the plastic price the introduction on the market, because now became at that time unprofitable from geobra produced large plastic article (ceiling panels, child furniture etc.) completely; for the small figures however one needed substantially less the expensive raw material.

"Building site ", "savage the west "and "knight time "followed the first play worlds meanwhile over 20 different topics with extensive accessories. 1976 was added female figures, children and babies 1981 and/or 1983 was for the first time sold. Up to now already approximately 1.8 billion Playmobil figures were manufactured, which would orbit one behind the other standing lined up almost the earth.
Only few years after the introduction on the market of Playmobil the company geobra the turnover-strongest German play goods manufacturer and ranked since then at the point. Geobra has an annual turnover of 361 millions euro in the financial year 2005 (previous year 359 millions euro) and world-wide 2,591 coworkers (of it 1,439 in Germany) in four production plants. The assortment consists of approximately 250 different articles. Each single figure costs approx. two euro.
The competition product PlayBIG brought out by the company BIG 1975 could not become generally accepted against it at the market. In, the law case for many years caused by the introduction on the market Playmobil could become generally accepted finally; BIG - admits also by its Bobbycar - stopped the production of PlayBIG 1978/79.
2004 celebrated the Playmobil males their 30. Birthday. In the historical museum of the Pfalz (Speyer) not only many males were to visit but also of them often unusual uses from collecting tanks and artists to.
Since the year 2000 there is in Zirndorf also its own Playmobil recreational park, which is called Playmobil FunPark. In the meantime five further Playmobil FunParks in the world were opened.
