Sir Peter Brian Medawar (* 28 February 1915 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; "† 2 October 1987 in London, England) was an English Anatom. In the year 1960 it received the Nobelpreis for physiology or medicine together with franc MacFarlane Burnet "for its discovery of the acquired immunological tolerance".

Medawar was informed in the years 1928-1932 at the Marlborough college, then he studied college in Oxford at the Magdalen. During the Second World War he worked for the Medical Research Council. Beginning of the 1940er years began it to concern itself with the topic of the immune system and the transplant ions. It published in this area together with Thomas Gibson in the year 1943 a fundamental work (The fate OF skin homografts in one. Journal OF Anatomy, 77/1943, P. 299-310). In this publication they proved that the repulsion of organs, which come from donors not used with the receiver is based on immunological principles.

In the years 1947-1951 was Medawar Zoologieprofessor at the University OF Birmingham, in the years 1951-1962 at the University OF London. In the year 1962 he became a director national institutes for of the Medical Research.
