Percivall Pott (* 6 January 1714 in London; "† 22 December 1788 in London), was an English surgeon.

Pott became after the school attendance for a training money of 200 Pound assistant with the surgeon Edward Nourse at the pc. Bartholomew"´s hospital in London, with which he learned the handicraft of the Wundarztes in seven-year-olds training period. With Nourse it received fundamental and for its time not at all natural training in anatomy, which was of great importance for its further work. On 7 September 1736 it existed with Bravour the admission into the society of the Londoner Bader and Pott was an assistant of Nourse, until he became 1744 auxiliary surgeon at the Bartholomew"´s Hosptial, and then 1749 a place as a tidy surgeon began there, which he exercised until 1787. Pott was selected 1764 into the Royal Society.

After a riding accident 1756, in which it tightened itself a complicated open seeming leg break and it escaped only scarcely a Beinamputation - to treat an at that time quite usual method, a complicated german type - published it a number of important medical contributions. Pott attained thereby large admittingness and its methods won far spreading. Important publications were "A Treatise on Ruptures "(1756) and "Chirurgical Observations ". The contribution "A Treatise on Ruptures "fallow with many old opinions of the surgery and Pott released an embittered scholar controversy with the writing. Its book "Some few Remarks upon Fractures and Dislocations" (1778) into the French and Italian and announced Percivall Potts name were translated far beyond England. The methods described there became standard for the modern treatment of german types. Pott supplied important contributions also for the treatment of head injuries. Pott belonged in the center 18. Century to that usually and with it concomitantly most experienced surgeon of England employed. Its large admittingness pulled many European medical profession after pc. Bartholomew"´s, where he was an in demand teacher.

A special position in the history of the medicine also takes Pott, because he was a first physician, who proved a connection between environmental condition and illness. Pott recognized a connection between cancer illnesses and handling with tar with chimney sweeps. After it also a today rare change of the spinal column is designated (Pott Gibbus; ICD-10: M49.0, A18.01).

Pott died on 22 December 1788 in London at the consequences of a pneumonia.
