Paul Bert (* 17 October 1833 in Auxerre; "† 11 November 1886 in Hanoi) was a French physician.

It published important realizations for the effect of the air pressure on the human body in its work La Pression Barometrique (1878). In particular he determined the important role of the nitrogen as the first with the decompression sickness and proved that one can decrease the occurrence of problems by decompression, if the pressure is only gradually lowered. After it the Paul Bert effect is designated.
