Under the trade mark there is OXO in England in different Geschmacksrichtungen. Except the most well-known, original sort are produced them today also as chicken, lamb, vegetable cubes and in some exotic Geschmacksrichtungen.
The cubes are first and to serve as (additional) spice in meals and sauces - or they are dissolved to the use as immediately ess and/or drinkable clear soup in cooking water.
The production of the OXO cubes is based on work of Justus of Liebig and George Christian Gilbert. Originally (around 1840) the liquid meat excerpt was needed for those, which could not afford genuine meat. It was used also medically against the malnutrition.
1899 developed the name "OXO", and 1910 came from the factories into Uruguay for the first time the more inexpensive cubes into the trade. In the First World War they belonged to the emergency rations of the English troops. In the four war years about 100 million pieces were produced.
An improvement of the product 1929 and substantial Werbekampagnen made OXO in England almost an institution, of the admittingness ago comparable with the Maggi spice or the Knorr soups in Germany. In this country one is many more difficult it to buy OXO cubes.
