The Owen case dam, today: Nalubaale power station, is a concrete dam and no dam, and stands north the Viktoriasees at the Viktoria Nile with Jinja (Uganda, Africa).
Those scarcely 831 m for a long time and approximately 31 m high gravity dam, which was finished until 1954 at present the British colonial administration below the Owen of case, is about 3.2 km underneath the former natural discharge of the Nile from the Viktoriasee. By their establishment the Owen and Ripon of case sank in the water of the lake, which became by this artificial enlargement from the natural lake to artificial lake. The artificial lake is with its memory contents of 2.700.000 million m the largest artificial lake of the earth, however the largest part of the memory is the natural lake and the additionally accumulated volume amounts to only about 205,000 million m
With the help of the dam it is possible to steer the Wasserabfluss from the Viktoriasee into the Nile valley whereby also the quantity of water is adjusted, which flows that far lakes lying north, for example the Kyogasee. In addition the discharge from precipitation-rich years of the resulting surplus water from the Viktoriasee can be minimized in such a way by the dam that the deficit can become balanced in the years of light precipitation if necessary. By the power station (Owen of case power station, 2000 after the traditional name of the Viktoriasees in Nalubaale power station renamed) at the concrete dam river (60 megawatts) for Uganda and western Kenya is produced.
Of 1993 - 1999 were built a second power station (Kiira power station - after the traditional name for the Nile, formerly Owen of case Extension). Up to the official inauguration 2003 three of five sets with 40 megawatts each were installed.
The effects of the dam on the ecology of the lake come ever more into the criticism of environmental protection organizations. After the start-up of the second power station the water level of the lake reached record low conditions in the year 2006, which were measured to the last mark before 80 years. That global Nature find explained the Viktoriasee as "the threatened lake of the yearly 2005 ".
