Oswald (* 19 April 1888 in Meran, South Tyrol; "† 29 November 1973 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) was a Austrian university professor, and a minister of education under Arthur Seyss Inquart.

Life

From 1918 to 1945 he was a university professor for prehistory at the University of Vienna, beyond that from 1930 to 1933 professor at the University of Cairo.

1919 to 1926 were member of the German community, in which he learned Seyss Inquart to know.

For the academic year 1935/36 he was selected to the rector of the University of Vienna. After repeated futile attempts 1936 the choice took place to the tidy member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

By July 1936 to June 1937 it was member of the leader advice of the Viennese patriotic front.

At the 11. March 1938 he became a minister of education in the so-called "connection cabinet" by Seyss Inquart. Into its term of office falls not only the connection law, but also the so-called "cleaning" of the University of Vienna running to at the end of May. Thus for Jewish studying a number was introduced clausus of 2% and approximately 40% of the training body because of "Jewish descent" and/or from "political reasons" to dismiss.

In August 1938 the University of Vienna returned.

To the war he came as a member of the Seyss Inquart government on the 1. War criminal list. He was not accused however, but came into American internment camps, where he held lectures.

1948 succeeded to it the passage to Argentina, where he became a university professor in Buenos Aires and starting from 1957 also at the University of La Plata.

The procedure against it was stopped 1956.

1959 it became corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

It died on 29 November 1973 in Buenos Aires in Argentina.
