Orlen is a label name for the gas station net of the Polish mineral oil company PKN Orlen. The German head office is in Elmshorn. The label name Orlen is derived from the Polish word Orzel (eagle), which forms also the brand name.
Common the mark is particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein, since PKN Orlen took over the "north package" from BP, which company after the fusion of BP and Aral had to deliver as edition of the Federal Cartel Office. Of this reason a majority of the gas stations from former and now umgeflaggten gas stations of BP, Aral and HEM consists. Thus Orlen had to establish to the market entrance 2003 a favorable starting situation around itself on the German market and holds at present with 484 gas stations approximately 3% at the all-German fuel market. The first Orlen gas station in Germany was opened on 06 June 2003 in Berlin.
