The term organization communication (or Organizational Communication) is differently understood in the technical literature. Bases for the understanding of the term are among other things at Robert's et al. (1977), with Goldhaber (1986), to find with Theis (1994) or with Herger (2004). Generally it acts senses thereby around communication in and communication of organizations.

Communication in organizations seizes all internal communication procedures, thus for example E-Mail, teamwork, video conferences or processes of decision making. Communication of organizations seizes all exterene communication procedures, thus for example the public work or the coining/shaping influence from organizations on topic choice and/or - dressing on the part of the mass media. Technical media can play a role with the communication procedures. Organization communication as research field must not compellingly only communication in, of or for organizations in institutional sense focus, but can as communication of dynamically understood organization conceptions be understood, which reflect themselves for example in different forms of organizational models or organization concepts.

From the view of practice will often organization communication with interlaced, integrated communication equated and designates communication of an organization, with that the different communication disciplines, as PR, marketing, advertisement, CI etc., into an entire concept to be brought, with one another coordinated and co-ordinated (Ahrens & PR-agency 2004). This view - although also comprehensively - clear containment of the term represents and is justified only by the practical use background. Organization communication is rarely used Public relation also in the close sense by public work, and/or in the sense of integrated enterprise communication, which picks out only in each case specific aspects of the general term. From the view of the communication science organization communication is a type of communication after the degree of the public beside more individual, group and mass communication.
