Under the term of operational planning or the operational Controlling in the management economics all short term planning measures are combined into the reaching of the enterprise or the organization goal, in demarcation to long-term strategic planning.

Operational planning can be defined not uniformly and e.g. consists of the different subranges like Controlling, operational planning, work planning (production), costing and performance calculation (here in particular the assortment determination by the calculation of amount covered and plan cost calculation) or marketing. For the completion of the order in production and in the service the functions of the ascertainment of need strategy and the arrangement are responsible.

It serves also for the current exhaustion and adjustment of the existing Leistungspotenziale. It concerns for example special adjustments of the production program with the goal of achieving as economic a use of resources as possible. This is converted concretely on the dispositive planning level (e.g. materials requirements planning, job order planning etc.) or by event-referred control measures. With the fact it is important that all leadership levels are coordinated with one another and one on the other co-ordinated.
