The Organization for the Advancement OF Structured information standard (OASIS) is an international, non-profit-oriented organization, which concerns itself with the advancement of E-Businesses and Web service standard. Well-known standards of the OASIS are among other things the open document and DocBook.

Open document

In order to establish an open, standardized file format - particularly for text processings -, with OASIS a working group was formed for the development of the free open document formats, which with OpenOffice.org 2, StarOffice 8 and KOffice 1,4 one introduced surface covering among other things. With OASIS the monopolistic position is to be aufgeweicht by Microsoft Word. So far the format of Microsoft, which did not document publicly accessible and so that competitor disadvantages, dominates as well as its customers at Microsoft as an only offerer of completely compatible software binds.

Further operating fields

The moreover also the DocBook format and the XACML standard are regularly maintained of the OASIS. Selbiges applies also to the languages SAML and SPML. Together with CEFACT OASIS was involved in addition in the development of ebXML.
