Nickelodeon (short: Nod) is a television station for children. World-wide there are approximately 30 regional folders of Nickelodeon, since 12 September 2005 also again in Germany.
The transmitter began 1977 under the name Pinwheel (AE: Windrad) regionally. Starting from 1 April 1979 the television program in the USA was to be received then country-wide. 1981 were renamed Pinwheel in Nickelodeon. The name is taken to the designation of the first American cinemas, which were called because of the admission fee of five cent (= 1 nickel) nickel odeons.
Nickelodeon produces indication trick series (the Nicktoons in such a way specified), shows for children and material film series (like Zoey101). Under the names Nickelodeon Movies produces Nickelodeon also features for children. Nickelodeon was originally in possession of the Warner AMEX Satellite Entertainment company (WASEC) and belonged today to MTV network, a part of the US-American medium company Viacom.
In Germany Nickelodeon would send DFS Kopernikus starting from 12 July 1995, first on the satellite, later also on Astra and in the cable television. In most cable systems the transmitter a channel with ARTE or VH-1 divided. With the introduction of the public child channel Nickelodeon was displaced however most cable systems.
To 31. May 1998 was stopped the program because of to small ratingses. The reason of the operators did not read that the transmitter against the be entitled-financed, public competition of the child channel a chance has. In addition the small range in the German cable systems was not sufficient for the advertising customers. Actually is to have come the attitude transmit mode in addition, because of gross errors in the management.
Starting from 28 September 1998 TV-transmitter SF2 a Nickelodeon Programmfenster started on public German Swiss, to which numerous series and other residues of the old Nickelodeon program from Germany were transferred. After 5 years transmitting time did not decide to resume SF DRS the contract with Nickelodeon no more, which became program window at the end of of September 2003 from now on replaced by junior by EM.TV.
At the beginning of of 2000 tried Nickelodeon a reentrance in Germany, which failed however. Instead Nickelodeon assigned already before like licenses of its series at Ki.Ka, super RTL and ORF.
In some countries of Europe numerous Nickelodeon folders are to be received over Pay TV offers digitally.
On 12 September 2005 Viacom has the transmitter nods (folders of the American child channel Nickelodeon) the German television market brought and thus also to Austria and into Switzerland. Nod replaced by it the music transmitter MTV2 Pop, which one of four channels was, the Viacom in Germany operated (beside VIVA, VIVA PLUS and MTV). Nod offers a 24-Stunden-Programm. In its core target group of the 3-13 year old ones nods an average monthly market share of 6,0% per cent to register, in the time track 9.00-13.00 in the meantime already lies this knew with 8,8%. Altogether comes nod in the time 6.00-20.00 on a market share of 6,8%. (The average monthly market share with all spectators starting from 3 years amounted to 0.5%). Individual transmissions such as Hey Arnold! , Spongebob sponge head or Chalk zone could inspire even 140,000 spectators for itself. Also the started again series of Neds ultimative school insanity brought in a market share of 10% with the premiere with a spectator number of 100.000. In March 2006 additionally self-produced German shows went to the start, one of these formats are "everything nod" and by Kathy and Lars are moderated. Already in February 2006 "Kids Top 20" started.
On 1 June digital started NICK/VIVA Austria over Astra, whereby NOD from 06.00 to 20,15 o'clock to be seen is and VIVA from 20.15 to 06,00 o'clock.
Adjusted in the night to 3 June the time track "NOD Comedy", since on 15 January starts 2007 Comedy cent ral. Instead long a program is radiated all day long only for children, therefore also Cartoons will run in the evening and night program.
