National park in India on Federal State level are administered. At present there are 92 of national park (conditions in India: in each case 2004/05) with a total area of scarcely 38,000 km (approximately 1.2 per cent of the national surface).

The number the national park is to be increased on a long-term basis to 166. Several national park are in planning, under it the Kambalakonda national park (70 km in Andhra Pradesh as well as national park the Anamudi Shola (7.50 km and Pampadum Shola (1.32 km in Kerala.

Besides 500 further protected areas exist. Altogether a surface of 156.700 km is located under protection in completely India, which corresponds to almost five per cent of the national surface.
