France maintains at present sieved national park, which are subordinate to the Department of the Environment as public mechanisms:

• National park haven Cros (frz. ), 1963 based
• National park Pyreneeses (frz. ), 1967 based
• National park Cevennen (frz. ), 1970 based
• National park Ecrins (frz. ), 1973 based
• National park Mercantour (frz. ), 1979 based
• National park Guadeloupe (frz. ), 1989 based

Basis the French national park is a law from the year 1960, which regulates the tasks and basic conditions the national park. Principal purposes are the protection of nature, the receipt of visitors and the sharing at local Entwicklung.Die six parks in the French motherland cover altogether 0.66% of the total area.

The opening of a respected national park is planned for the year 2006.

Further areas are to follow in the future: the area of the Calanques with Marseille, the Mer d'Iroise and an area in French Guayana.
