The Northrop corporation was a prominent US-American airplane manufacturer.

The company was created 1939 by Jack Northrop and participated already in the first year with the experimental airplane Northrop XP-56 at an advertisement of the United States Army air Force for a new fighter. During the Second World War Northrop e.g. built the night fighter P-61 Black Widow.

Northrop was particularly active in the development of only wing bombers (YB-35, YB-49 and the camouflage cap bomber B-2 Spirit). The company produced also the camouflage cap experimental airplane Tacit Blue assigned from 1982 to 1985 of US air Force.

After the loss of the Advanced Tactical of Fighter contract at Lockheed Martin and the in the Joint Strike Fighter program the enterprise united to a manufacturer of civilian, mainly however military products for the ship, air and space travel as well as of military technology and information technology in the year 1994 in a Merger with the Grumman Aerospace corporation to the Northrop Grumman corporation.
