The task the interests of German enterprises represented the North Africa and central east initiative of the German economy (short NMI) in relation to the policy in the region North Africa/central east and in Germany with a voice too to create networks and to strengthen the direct exchange with governments and entrepreneurs of the region.

Carriers are the Federal association of the German industry (BDI), the German industrie and Chamber of Commerce day (DIHK), the Federal association of the German large and foreign trade (BGA) and the close and central east association (NuMOV), as well as the Africa association (AV) and the Federal association of German banks (BdB).

Chairman of the NMI is since that 23.01.2006 Dr. Matthias Mitscherlich, chairman of the board of the MAN Ferrostaal AG.

The work area of the NMI covers altogether 21 countries:
