The Norris Geysir basin is the hottest Geysir basin of the Yellowstone national park. It is at the northwest edge of the Caldera of the Yellowstone volcano, close of the locality Norris Junction in the US Federal State Wyoming. The Norris Geysir basin resident with the Steamboat Geysir the largest active Geysir of the world.

In the Norris Geysir basin three important distortions cut themselves. The Norris Mammoth passage is a distortion, which from Norris by Mammoth Hot jump until Gardiner runs. The Hebgen Lake distortion begins in the northwest of west Yellowstone and ends in Norris. These two distortions cut themselves with a circular location of fracture, which is due to the volcanic eruption before 600,000 years. These distortions and the associated gaps, by which hot water can circulate, are the reason, why the basin is in such a manner hot.

Compared with other Geysir basins of the national park most water is sour and not basic in the Norris basin. There are even some Geysire with sour water, which is very rare. The pH value of the Echinus Geysirs is with approximately 3,5. The sour water permits to live other bacteria into hot sources. Therefore the sources differ in the Norris basin coloured from the remaining sources.

The Ragged Hills in the Norris Geysir basin is hydrothermal alterierte When the glaciers withdrew themselves after the last ice age, the underlying hydrothermalen activities melted the remainders of the ice and left masses of deposits. Steam and hot water deformed these. The locality Madison lies within the eroded river gutters of the lava stream of the last volcanic eruption. Both the Gibbon cases and the Virginia cases lie on the edge of the Caldera.
