The nominal value or nominal value indicates, a currency has which legal value. It is specified by the publishing institution, usually the central bank. Usually it is imprinted on the currency, and/or impressed.

Here it is important not to confound the nominal amount with the issue rate since this is determined on the capital market by supply and demand.

With the expenditure of young shares (S. capital increase) the issue rate can be specified however after a resolution of the general meeting.
