Nirosta is the label name designation for highly alloyed, flat-rolled stainless steel of the former Fried. Krupp AG, today ThyssenKrupp Nirosta GmbH. It stands for "rustproof steel". The term is used in the daily linguistic usage for all steel, which due to their chemical composition (at least 13 % chrome content) do not oxidize, and/or a close passive layer to form, which prevents a further oxidation. Nirosta has often an austenitic structure (cubic-face-centered structure so mentioned - kfz, also fcc for face cent-talk cubic). This can be transformed easily (deep-drawing, bending etc.).
The most frequent alloy is X5CrNi18-10 (material NR. 1.4301). It is used for sinks, simple plates, table-ware and cutlery (label "18/10").
Similarly still designations exist such as V2A, V4A, a2, A4 (V2A: Attempt melt 2 austenite; Label name of the Krupp AG, developed 1912 for puts. - Type X5CrNi18-8), Stainless Steel and high-grade steel stainless.
For all rustproof steel also the term "high-grade steel" is falsely used very frequently. High-grade steel is however the name for a steel with particularly high purity. It does not have to be inevitably highly alloyed and stainless like above mentioned sort.
Instead of Nirosta also Nieroster or Niroster is written very rarely, this wrong way of writing is to wrong hearing and/or understanding to be due.
