Naukratis is an antique Greek commercial town and lies in Egypt in the western Nile delta (in the antique one on the east bank of the kanopischen Nile arm). It became around 630 v. Chr., according to other data around 560 v. Chr. from the Polis Milet based. Naukratis was famous by the containers and flower threads manufactured there.

Under the Pharao Amasis of Egypt was Naukratis the only place in Egypt, over which goods from Greece could be imported. Because of this characteristic Naukratis was also more a movement of goods place than a Polis (city state) in the actual sense.

After Athenaios the inhabitants lived sumptuously and exercised the Aphroditekult.

The ruins of Naukratis (Apollon, Zeus, Pallas, Amuntempel, citadel, factory for Amulette etc.) were found in the winter 1884/85 southeast from Flinders Petrie with Nebireh at the channel Abu Dibab, about 75 km from Alexandria.
