The entire island Usedom in the district Ostvorpommern in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the border constitutes the nature park Usedom to Poland. Additionally to the island surface the nature park covers waters between island and mainland as well as in the northwest and the west a small strip of the mainland within the range of the seaside resort Lubmin and the city leaving.

Already at GDR times some surfaces Usedoms were to protected areas (ISD) as well as landscape protection areas (LSG) explained, which were gradually extended. The attribute nature park in the sense of a wide culture landscape was officially lent to the entire region in December 1999. An information center with showrooms, maps and folding sheets is in the historical station building at the bath road of Usedom (city).

The nature park becomes by the Baltic Sea with Greifswalder Bodden, the Peenestrom, which limits figure eight water and the Stettiner Haff. The total area of the Naturparkes is about 632 km Zirka 30% of this surface are of forest covered, approx. 50% are lakes and Bodden, 15% are moorlands, the remainder surface are culture landscape. Special characteristic of the Naturparkes are high variety at landscapes on limited area. Thus one finds here Baltic Sea beach and lakes and moorlands, beech forests and mixed with small villages and fields. The island Usedom belongs to the bird-richest areas in Germany. In the nature park breed fish eagles, white stork, Kranich and grey herons. The eutrophen flat lakes, like the Gothen and the Schmollensee are for the birds ideal racing and breeding places. The nature park can be attained well by means of B 110 of Anklam or by means of B 111 of Wolgast and with the Usedomer bath course. At the edge of the Naturparkes one finds the municipality herring village with the local parts Ahlbeck, herring village and Bansin.

Proven protected areas (ISD) within the nature park are:

  • Bird island Greifswalder Oie, 62 hectars
  • hook with peninsula Struck and Ruden (island), the oldest ISD Usedoms (already 1925 proven)
  • Island of large Wotig in the Peenestrom with since 1995, 203 hectars, salt meadow vegetation and bird protected area
  • Peninsula Gnitz, since 1994, 61 hectars
  • Wockninsee with since 1967, 50 hectars, partly land
  • since 1961, 6 hectars, moorland lake between Schmollensee and Baltic Sea beach
  • Peninsula Cosim at the Balmer lake, since 1996, 85 hectars
  • Bird islands and Werder in the Balmer lake, since 1967, 118 hectars
  • Gothensee, since 1967, with 800 hectars the largest ISD on Usedom, with Niedermoor Thurbruch
  • Golm, since 1976, 25 hectars, second highest mountain Usedoms (59 m)
  • Zerninsee, since 1995, 365 hectars, verlandeter lake and moorland at the border to Poland
  • Streckelsberg with Koserow, since 1961, 34 hectars, highest mountain of the island (60 m)
  • Mellenthiner OS, since 1995, 60 hectars, slawischer Wallberg and moorland
  • Small cancer lake, since 1996, 45 hectars, between Schmollensee and Gothensee
