The nature park south heath is 1964 a created nature park in the eastern Lower Saxony in the district Celle between the cities Celle and Uelzen. It is coined/shaped during thin settlement of wide forest surfaces and smaller heath surfaces, which on meager sandy soils.

Situation

That about 500 km large nature park south heath lies few kilometers north of Celle. It extends from there between mountains in the west, over Uelzen in the northeast and in the east. Further heath places around the nature park are Eschede, Hermannsburg, tired one Unterlss as well as Winsen (everything). It is part one of the largest coherent forest areas of Germany. North of it is the nature park heath.

Description

The landscape of the nature park was coined/shaped by the ice age. In this time deposited gravel and sand unfruchtbare plough land brought out, from which also the thin settlement of the area and the few traffic routes explain themselves. Thus a unzersiedelter and separated landscape area remained.

The entire park area is proven as landscape protection area; in it are eight protected areas with partially European meaning. Into the wide forests, which constitute 80 per cent of the park surface, smaller heath surfaces are in-blown up. They are only the remainders of the expanded heath surfaces of the Middle Ages, which extended between Celle and Lueneburg. The vehicles management strives for the receipt of the heath surfaces and administers over 600 hectares, among other things by Beweidung by Heidschnuckenherden.

In the park the naturenear heath brooks Oertze, Weesener brook, Lutter lie and laughed with existence of Fischottern, brown trouts and river Perl shells. In the brooks partially standing under nature protection numerous endangered planting and animal species have their habitat. The origin of the heath brooks often lies in idyllischen moorlands. The Oertze is because of its a running waters popular with Kanuten.

Objects of interest

With Hermannsburg still expanded heath surfaces are present and with Niederohe east of tired ones live large Heidschnuckenherden. With Schmarbeck there is a Wacholderpark, with which it concerns a heath surface existed with old Wacholdern. On the Wietzer mountain south of tired one stands in a heath surface of the , which reminds of the heath poet Hermann
