The Bavarian nature park of hate mountains is 804 km largely and lies in the northernmost part of the Frankish Keuperlandes. The hilly landscape is coined/shaped by mixed woodland, running waters, grassland, drying biotopes as well as old vineyards. 20 fleeing castles and barrier plants, 15 castles and castle ruins as well as 26 locks lie in the range of the national park.

The name of hate mountains is derived from the hessian races, which settled in this area. Their original designation was "Hassi".

The highest collection of the nature park is the Nassacher height with 512 m over Normalnull in the district of hate mountains south of Bundorf.
