The nature park Niederlausitzer land back takes a central place at 580 km in the surface under that altogether eleven nature parks in Brandenburg. The park lies west of the Spreewald in the Niederlausitz. East it approximately on a line of the cities Luckau and Calau limited, north by the river course of the Dahme, west extends it to briefly before the city Dahme and to the south to sun forest briefly before dark forest. More well-known places in the nature park might be Luckau and Drehna.

The Niederlausitzer land back developed as typical final morainic landscape already with the end the next to last ice age, the Saale ice age. This nature park has a completely own coinage, which is determined by an expanded moon landscape with enormous left open day building - inheritance of the former which was stopped around 1980. These open mining landscapes lie in the middle in the park and take scarcely 7,400 hectares of the total area.

Contrary to the meager sandigen surfaces and ravines in the center there are green meadows, fields, Fischteiche, a slawische castle plant, historical village centers, manor-houses and rural park plants in a lovely culture landscape. The agriculture with expanded agriculture surfaces dominates, in the south however a large closed forest area in the north: the Rochauer heath, which beside further in the meantime rare animals the Rauhfusskauz resident, which serves as Logo of the nature park.

Also at first sight perhaps repulsive moon landscape of the former open mining has a special meaning, which is only opened on the second view for nature lovers and still more for the nature protection. Some areas remained more than two decades without each human interference, thus unique biotopes developed. With the rising of the groundwater and over a Wasserzufuhr by the Spree expanded Sumpfgebiete and lakes partly form, for example for that in the future 700 hectares large Schlabendorfer lake. The water will cover a total area of approximately 1,400 hectares in the final stage of the development.

The totally nature-left water landscapes and like those approximately 50 hectares large dune landscape at the Schlabendorfer lake bring an animal and a plant world out, which could develop in Germany in no other surrounding field in such a way: in still meager vegetation specialists conquer such as Viennese sand run beetle, sand-frighten, sand ear worm, gyroscope wasp, wasteland-frighten and Rotbauchunke new habitats; Flussregenpfeifer, Kiebitz, most different kinds of duck and the largest laughter sea gull colony of Brandenburg are already domestic.

Center of the yearly 2003 existed approximately 50 km of wheel round ways by the former extraction areas, which become amazingly fast green with lichens, Moosen, shrubs and giant box stems.

A very similar nature process after the coal developed with beginning of the third millenium south of dark forest in the developing Naturparadies green house, which belongs geologically also to the Niederlausitzer land back, but ranks not among the nature park. So that the nature process in this new Naturparadies can be disturbed not nevertheless sometime by too many human interferences, the nature protection federation Brandenburg buys since 2003 large surfaces in the former open mining Kleinleipisch on (price approximately three cent per m - around sponsorships asked); End of 2004 1400 hectares and 2007 2000 hectares should be in the possession of the
