The nature park high bird mountain lies in the higher situations of the bird mountain. The bird mountain lies in the middle in the Land of the Federal Republic Hessen and very central in Germany. Before the reunification the geographical center of the Federal Republic lay with Altenschlirf in the nature park high bird mountain. With 880 square kilometers it is just as large as the Federal Capital Berlin. The low mountain range is an old sign volcano with the largest basalt mass of Europe. The nature park is coined/shaped by mixed woodland, grassland and damp biotopes as well as a Hochmoor. Numerous brooks flow star shaped into all directions. With Grebenhain one of the main water sheaths of Germany runs. A part of the brooks flows over the Lahn, the Kinzig and/or the Main into the Rhine, another over the Fulda and the Eder into the Weser. The German holidays road alpine Baltic Sea leads in the middle by the nature park. Culture-historically the high bird mountain attained Grimm by the fairy tales of the brothers.
