The national park Jasmund lies on the peninsula Jasmund in the northeast of the island in the Land of the Federal Republic Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and exists since 12 September 1990. It is approximately 3,000 hectars largely and is thereby of Germany smallest national park.

Since its emergence 1990 the national park Jasmund tightens annually millions of visitors. One of the substantial tasks of the national park administration consists therefore also of steering these host of visitors in order to ensure and for the visitors possible views of the fascinating nature of the national park make nevertheless a to a large extent unimpaired development of the various habitats of the national park.
To 18. March 2004 was inaugurated the information center at the Naturdenkmal king chair under the slogan "we to make invisible visibly ". The visitors can convince themselves of it with a multi-vision cinema and a one over 2000 square meter large experience exhibition and make familiar with "the natural "conditions (chalk rock, Viktoria view, Herthasee). The exhibition offers descriptive pictures, tones, something for touching and trying out as well as something to ranges of topics such as Baltic Sea, beech forest, glacier or chalk for reading.
The natural chalk occurrence on the peninsula Jasmund was for a long time diminished in chalk breaks. When the reopening of a chalk break already shut down threatened 1926, one proved the coast north of Sassnitz as protected area. On 12 September 1990 this coast region was explained as the national park. Since March 2004 a visitor center is to the visitors at the king chair at disposal.
