The Firmenlogo shows three lozenges, from which also the company name (Japanese mitsu = three and bishi = lozenge form) is derived. The lozenge commodity belonged to the symbols, from which the Samurai families formed their family coats of arms ("Mon").

History

1873 created Yataro Iwasaki with three rented steam ships the Mitsubishi Mail Steamship company. In the following years about 30 further ships were added, the business activity by on the ranges mining industry and shipbuilding were expanded.
