The midday flower plants (Aizoaceae) are a species-rich plant family. Them are arranged into four Unterfamilien and 123 kinds with approximately 2020 Arten.Die usually blattsukkulenten plants in Europe as ornamental plants are often used. Their original spreading emphasis is the southern Africa (Capensis).

Midday flower plants contain partially large quantities of organic acids, under it also of oxalic acid. In Australia it was observed that sheep suffered a poisoning after grazing Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum by oxalic acid.

One calls many Taxa in German "midday flowers" and many other Taxa calls one "living stones".
