The TS-series (abbreviation for "Telegabel rocker") are a motorcycle series the VEB of motorcycle works Zschopau (MZ), which was produced by June 1973 until May 1982 (250ccm) and/or until August 1985 (125 & 150ccm). As also of the MZ THERE was it essentially two versions of the TS: the large (250 cm and the small (125 and 150 cm series. Everyone was in each case in "standard" or "luxury" available with alternatively flat or high steering wheels.

MZ typically were constantly model-maintained also the TS-types. Like that e.g. the TS250 was starting from 1975 in series for the cultivation of a side car intended, starting from 1976 came the TS250/1 particularly improved for the side car enterprise.

The small series

The two smaller models are up to the capacity among themselves identically and differ from their predecessors ES150/1 and ETS150 only by slight changes at chassis and optics. Engine, drive, rear suspension, frameworks and different other parts were perfectly alike. A new development was the Telegabel (developed from the ETS fork), the entire front portion (the current in each case 250iger model entliehen), the tank and the Beleuchtungseinrichtung.Ab 1976 went the new fork of the TS 250/1 into series, 1978 followed also here a new engine with strengthened crankshaft. With the new engine now also the small TS in "de Luxe" - version had a tachometer. The engines of the TS 125 and/or 150 (mm of 125/2 and/or 150/2 and starting from 1978: Mm of 125/3 and/or 150/3) with 125 and/or 150 ccm capacity are air-cooled secondary act aggregates and carry out 10 and/or 11.5 HP. Due to the small weight of approximately 110 kg maximum speeds can become reached by 105-115 km/h. While the TS 250/1 was produced only until 1982, the production of the small TS still ran until 1985, before also it was replaced from the small ETZ.

The large series

The TS 250 shows against it, for GDR conditions, revolutionary innovation they is the first MZ their engine not in a loop framework sits, but flexibly in one, that area haven models entliehenen, Zentralrohrrahmen. First if a completely new engine, with E-Anlasser, had been developed 12V-Anlage and horizontal divisible crankshaft housing, then from cost reasons of the introduction of the series, the mm of 250/2 (from the ETS 250 and/or that IT 250/2) was inserted, detail-improved as mm of 250/3. This air-cooled two-stroke engine mm of 250/3 with 4-Gang-Getriebe (starting from 1976 mm of 250/4 with 5-Gang-Getriebe) carries 19 HP out in both versions, with which one reaches a maximum speed of 125 km/h. In the "luxury" was available it with chrome screens at the tank and polished parts. Starting from 1975 there were also 250er TS with the Stoye Superelastik side cars ex factory.

In June 1976 you followed the detail-improved TS 250/1 (in England: "Supa 5"). It was the first series MZ with 5-Gang-Getriebe and horizontalveripptem cylinder head (to the better heat dissipation as well as oscillation and noise steaming of the ribs). A further new fact was the new socketless Telegabel (guide tubes with 35 mm in diameter), which is to be found likewise in the ETZ and still until 2002 in series into the MZ-Kanunis, from which Turkey was inserted. In "de Luxe" - version possessed it in addition a mechanical tachometer. Starting from 1981 it was supplemented by the ETZ 250 and replaced later.

The TS-models were exported into more than 50 countries (among other things the USA, Iraq, FRG) and coined/shaped the bloom time of MZ. No other MZ-type was produced with such high year sow impact. Until today the small TS-models are the usually-built motorcycle of German postwar history and the usually-sold MZ-model.

This success was based quite also on the fact that the TS - contrary to other GDR products - was full on the height of the time; thus it won the maximum score in the "large one 17-PS test" of the magazine "motorcycle" easily within the range "economy", struck within the range "engine" Yamaha, Harley-Davidson and Hercules (Sachs) and was there with got when suspension and absorption as well as with the front seat passenger travelling comfort.
