Mu-metal English permalloy) is a soft-magnetic nickel iron alloy (approx. 75-80% nickel) of high magnetic permeability, which is used for the screen of magnetic fields. If Mu-metal is bent or deformed, it should again be glowed, in order to receive by healing completely lattice defects the high permeability.
Mumetall gives it in the form of sheet metals begun from a thickness from 0.5 mm to 5.0 mm in standard masses, as well as in addition in slab mould. It is a registered registered trade mark of the company VAC Vacuumschmelze, Hanau.
| components | Nickel iron alloy with 81% Ni, 19% Fe.Andere of mixing proportion are also usually, as for example 80% Ni, 16% Fe and 4% CO |
| saturation magnetization | 1.25 Tesla |
| resistance | 20*10-6 Ocm |
| MR coefficient | 2% - 4% |
| temperature dependence | 0.3% per "°C |
The alloy is warmed up to above the temperature (200-400"°C). Afterwards it is again cooled down. The temperature range is thereby with approx. 250"°C for several hours. At the same time to specify a magnetic field put on around the preferential axle (magnetization axle of the individual atoms in the material). The field strength put on is in the mT-range.
