The MOSAIC is the oldest and present-strongest still appearing Comic of German production. The magazine was created 1955 in east Berlin. The first booklet appeared in December 1955. First the magazine appeared quarterly, since number 7 (June 1957) appears the booklet monthly. The today's heroes of stories are the three koboldartigen figures Abrax, Brabax and Califax, together also Abrafaxe mentioned.
By December 1955 to June 1975 221 booklets under the leadership of Hannes preserving, which played in 23 centuries mankind history, appeared and whose main heroes the Digedags were. 2 booklets (number 3 and 5) were similarly the Disneypublikationen with humanized animals arranged.
The booklets formed different series to certain ranges of topics. To special popularity it brought the row to knight Runkel (numbers 90 to 151, appeared from May 1964 to June 1969), which plays in the Middle Ages. It was translated into different languages and appeared among other things in the Netherlands, Finland and Hungary.
Afterwards preserving raised the requirement from completely unpolitical picture stories. However at least the space series (numbers 25 to 44) of the spirit of the cold war is filled. The later booklets are then however increasingly a timeless, artistically valuable Comic. The Digedags is to be always found Streiter for property and on the side of the simple people.
1975 had itself author preserving from until today not completely clarified reasons with the publishing house so that this looked for other authors. The bypass 2 became in. Half-year already 1975 published booklets from the Runkelserie repeats. At this time Lothar worked however already intensively on a new concept for the mosaic, which was later then partly converted also. With the organization of the main figures finally Lona Rietschel could become generally accepted with its drafts.
Since January 1976 in the MOSAIC appearing successor of the Digedags is likewise three figures, which travel by the times and regions of the earth. It was called following the Digedags Abrafaxe, and a similar appearance was given to them. Preserve thereupon a copyright procedure on, could not intersperse itself however judicially.
The three heroes Abrax, Brabax and Califax enjoy until of today large popularity. The MOSAIC appears at present with a monthly edition of approximately 100,000 copies. The Abrafaxe has its predecessors, who overhaul Digedags, by far with meanwhile over 360 booklets and 30 years feature time. So far far over 200.000.000 booklets of both rows were sold.
