The Modum blue color work (Modums or ) was established 1773 in Norway as royal work and was the first large chemistry enterprise of Scandinavia. The kobalthaltige ore was transported from the pits to the work and the cobalt-blue color was won here. The work sent its cobalt-blue into the whole world, among other things already 1788 away to China and Japan. 1823 were bought the work of private German interests. The director of the blue color work was Benjamin Wegner, a native Ostpreusse. Together with baron Wilhelm Christian Benecke v. Berlin, possessed and led he the blue color work.

Today the blue color work is a tourist magnet. In the socialhistorical museum the life of the work workers is shown, in the gentleman Mr. Nyfossum is Interieur and art to be seen. Also the cobalt pits in beautiful Norwegian nature can be visited. A museum is dedicated to the painter Theodor Kittelsen (1857-1914). The area" Kunstnerdalen "is called not in vain, since it attracted many romantic artists.
