The Ministry for post office and telecommunication system of the GDR was established to 1949 in the GDR and dissolved in the course of the German unit 1989/1990. By May 1951 the Ministry led the official name Ministry for post office and telecommunication system. The Ministry came out from the central administration for the post office and telecommunication system, the later head office post office and telecommunication system (HVPF), created on instruction of the SMAD 1945.

The Minister for post office and telecommunication system managed the Ministry, which became to represent from an undersecretary of state. The Minister issued arrangements and implementation instructions in addition of the laws and regulated the post office and telecommunication system of the GDR by so-called orders and instructions.
