The "military weekly paper" was a prominent military technical periodical, which appeared from 1816 to 1942 in Berlin.
The establishment of the magazine took place in the year 1816 via Colonels von Lilienstern (1780-1847), the boss of the war-historical department of the Prussian general staff and OTL. Karl von Decker (1784-1844), the director/conductor of the topographic office of the general staff. It received official decrees from the war Ministry permission to publish orders and personnel messages of the Prussian officer corps. The sheet in the publishing house of Ernst Siegfried intermediary was printed (1785-1870). The magazine had a large reader circle. It should inform the army members and it annimieren itself with military history to employ.
In the year 1824 the general staff transferred the line of the magazine, whereby it became an official organ of the Prussian army. This censorship took place due to a Polemik, which had appeared in the military weekly paper. The general staff saw working in the journal however also a welcome possibility "fast and crucially on the spirit of the officers and thus on the army" (general 1824) beside the official messages concentrated the special attention of the authors on the contemporary development of military affairs. The task of the magazine was to be contributed official "by an appropriate selection from essays to the true training of the recent part of the officers of the army."
Scientific work appeared starting from 1843, after loosening the censorship regulations, only in the "supplements to the military weekly paper". Starting from 1848 the censorship was void perfectly, but the war Ministry was still anxious around the keeping of official secrets and issued therefore regulations for publishing military essays. The military weekly paper was divided at this time into an official part with personnel messages and a not official part with reviews. Those changed starting from 1861 under dier government of William I., who wished that the journal received again rather the character of a military technical periodical. From 1 April 1867 all official report in the "army official gazette" were published. The military weekly paper was transferred however again a public magazine (the thought to an official military magazine only 1904 came as quarter booklets for troop guidance and an army customer.) the line an inactive officer, who was supported by the war Ministry and the general staff. The essays and contributions were returned by officers and published after detailed examination.
During the French-German war 1870/71 an expenditure with the current war reports appeared daily. A further supplement was starting from 1883 the "military literature newspaper" with reviews, lists of new publications and announcements of literature. Also during the First World War the magazine appeared three times weekly with messages of the war process and personnel changes within the army. After the war appear the magazine starting from 1919 under the title "independent magazine for German armed forces" and tried contentwise the experiences of the world war to process. In the 30's it lost however in relation to other military publications, like the military-scientific round-looks at meaning. Up to its attitude in the year 1942 it remained however organ of the armed forces guidance.
