Mikojan Gurewitsch MiG, today Russian aircraft corporation (RAC) MiG) is a Russian, formerly Soviet military aircraft manufacturer. The company is specialized in the development and production of fighters.

The OKB (experimental design engineering department) under the line of the Armenian Artjom Iwanowitsch Mikojan and the Russian Mikhail Iossifowitsch Gurewitsch came out 1939 by government decree from the Muscovites aircraft factory No. 1 and the design engineering department under the direction of Nikolai Polikarpow.

The series production of the first airplane, which MiG-1 began at 1941 and became still in the same year because of the threat of Moscow by the German troops shifted after Samara. 1942 were separated the design engineering department from the factory and shifted again back to Moscow.

During and since the Second World War Mikojan Gurewitsch produced thousand military aircraft.

The type designation MiG is used typically only for Serienmaschinen transferred to the troop service. The designation of the prototypes or test machines (i e etc.) is not uniformly regulated.

For the type designation of fighters/fighter-bombers in the Soviet/Russian aircraft construction typically odd numbers are used, straight numbers are reserved for bombers/transport aircrafts.

The type MiG-28 is an invented airplane, which was used in the film Top Gun. Actually for it disguised F-5 tiger II was used.
