The meadow Sauerampfer (Rumex acetosa), also large Sauerampfer or only Sauerampfer mentioned, is a plant type, which belongs to the family of the (Polygonaceae). It is a game vegetable.
Already in the antiquity used the Egyptians, Greek and Romans Sauerampfer as reconciliation for the too plentiful admission of fat meals with their fixed meals. In the Middle Ages the Sauerampfer was particularly common on the British islands far and one attributed to it - probably falsely - a fever-lowering effect. In addition Sauerampfer the sailors of the Middle Ages was already well-known as means against scurvy.
It grows of several years as krautige plant. The Sauerampfer loves nutrient and nitrogen-rich and lehmige soils. The bloom time extends from May to August. The small red blooms are at sheetless as Rispe trained. The plant becomes 30 to 100 cm highly.
In the intensive grassland economy the Sauerampfer is a problem, since its seeds (thousands per plant) do not only survive several years in the soil, but also in the liquid manure remains germable. It is considered as pointer plant to main by liquid manure of fertilized grasslands. It is unwanted, since it can be conserved in Silage or hay badly and by the cattle is avoided. Thus it can spread on affirmative locations in great quantities and displace fodder grasses. Its fight represents a large problem, since its remain regenerationable up to 1,5 m deep Speicherwurzeln also still in small parts and new plants to form.
The Sauerampfer contains very much Vitamin C, why it can be cooked as game vegetables or eaten roughly. However it contains oxalic acid, which is injurious to health, in larger quantities for humans, particularly for kidney patient.
When collecting the Sauerampfers on the fact it respects that he does not come from over-fertilized meadows. To be selected only copies with immaculate sheets should. Older copies with rust-brown in the sheet are particularly unwholesome in larger quantity.
One can prepare the Sauerampfer similarly as spinach, and/or mix him with this, so that a somewhat spicy taste develops. Also as salad or as cremige soup he is used.
With digesting complaints Sauerampfer can be taken as cures; and because it contains a very high portion of organic Eisenverbindungen, it can be given also with blood poverty.
Meanwhile the Sauerampfer is cultivated also occasionally in the garden. The sowing in the spring (approx. in the middle of March) on damp soil in rows, later the young plants on 20 cm are effected then isolated. The young, tender sheets are picked; if one makes this regularly, then relatively fast new sheets copy themselves, it are thus a long Erntezeit ensured.
With the formation of blooms these should be removed. In this way goes entire Kraft of the plant into sheet forming.
It is likewise a late seed in August possible; the harvest begins then in the following year.
