Max Thomas, (* 4 August 1891 in Duesseldorf; "† 6 December 1945 in peppering castle), was a physician and in the third realm SS-group leader and lieutenant general of the police, director/conductor of the SD-Oberabschnitts Rhine and the group of employments of C in the USSR as well as higher SS and police leader "black sea ".

Origin and study

Max Thomas was born on 04 August 1891 in Duesseldorf. 1912 it began with the study, announced themselves then with beginning of the 1. World war as a Freiwilliger. It became an officer and 1919 from the realm resistance to dismiss.

Thomas studied thereupon to jurisprudence and medicine further until 1922 and attained a doctorate to the Dr. med. following practiced it as a specialist for psychiatry.

Briefly after the seizure of power by the national socialists Dr. Thomas at the 1 did. May 1933 with the member NR. 1848453 the NSDAP. In July 1933 it became member of the SS (member NR. 141341).

With security agency of the SS

He became a councilman of the city Fritzlar and took over the line of a branch office of the security agency of the SS (SD), after it had been honorary active for the SD already before. 1939 were finally entrusted Dr. Thomas with the line of the SD-Oberabschnitts Rhine.

As he was appointed the inspector of the state police and the SD Wiesbaden and was at the same time a special attorney Reinhard Heydrichs for the range of the west's buildings (west barrier) with 70 officials of the Gestapo and criminal investigation department.

In the time of June 1940 to autumn 1941 it was used as commander of the state police and the SD (BdS) Belgium and north France.

At the groups of employments of the state police and the SD in the USSR

In October 1941 Dr. Thomas and major general of the police Dr. Dr. Otto rapid followed as a leader of the group of employments of C, which were used in the range of the army group south in the northern and middle Ukraine. However this group of employments killed 1941 26,000 humans to end of the yearly. With the transformation of the group of employments C into a stationary unit in March 1942, Dr. Thomas BdS in Kiew became. He had responsibility thereby for "the dissolution "the Ghettos for the Ukrainian Jews, by whom at least 300,000 was killed.

Dr. Thomas was promoted on 09 November 1942 to the SS-group leader and lieutenant general of the police. After the war

After end of war Dr. Thomas with the wrong name submerged "Dr. Karl Brandenburg "first and worked finally in practice the physician Mackenstein in small east home at Aschaffenburg.

On 06 December 1945 Dr. Max Thomas committed a Suizidversuch and died in the Luitpoldkrankenhaus.
