Matthias Erzberger (* 20 September 1875 in Buttenhausen with (Wrttemberg); "Â 26 August 1921, murdered with bath Griesbach in the Black Forest) was a politician of the central party in the empire and in the Weimar Republic.
After the school time in Bichishausen Erzberger visited first the in Swabian and then the catholic teacher seminar in Saulgau, where he put 1894 down the people school teacher examination. After activities as people school teachers in Marbach, and Stuttgart he began 1896 a study of the Staatrsrechts and the political economy in Freiburg in the which he did not lock however, because he began to work in the same year already as an editor for the catholic German people sheet in Stuttgart. At the same time also its commitment in catholic worker associations and in the central party began. Already 1903 were selected Erzberger - as at that time youngest delegates - for the constituency beaver oh in Reichstag. Its political pulling father was a realm tag delegate Richard Mueller (center).
During the First World War Erzberger beside Karl dear farmhand (realm tag delegate of the SPD/USPD) was an only politician, who criticized publicly the passive attitude of Germany for the policy of the Turkish allied ones in relation to the not-Muslim population in the Osmani realm, particularly opposite the Armenians in Ostanatolien and opposite the Syrian and Lebanese Christians. It traveled several times after Konstantinopel to negotiations with the young-Turkish ruling powers.
Erzberger was as an undersecretary of state member of the armistice commission and signed when desired Paul von Hindenburgs on 11 November 1918 in (France) the armistice with the allied ones, the fighting of the First World War terminated. In January 1919 he was selected into those Weimar national assembly. In the cabinet sheath man he was appointed as a boss of the armistice commission the realm Minister without division. On 21 June 1919 Erzberger became a Minister of Finance among realm chancellors Gustav farmer. It developed the fiscal administration again and put with its reforms - among other things the introduction of the direct pay-as-you-earn - the bases for the this very day existing German control system.
By the stronger centralization of the tax receipts and the load of larger fortunes for the reorganization of realm finances Erzberger became still more the target and hate figure of right propaganda. In particular Karl Helfferich prepared the soil for the following political murder with the brochure away with Erzberger. ("Ball approximately, but kugelfest", it meant.)
On 26 August 1921 the former naval officers Heinrich Tillessen and Heinrich Schulz - both member of the right organization Consul - fit off Erzberger in bath Griesbach in the Black Forest with a walk with his party friend Carl Diez. They shot six times at the politician, who was straight in the sick leave. Heavily hurt Erzberger an embankment fell down. The assassins killed the politician from next proximity with two further shots into the head, also Diez heavily were then hurt. The grave Erzbergers is this very day in beaver oh to the tear.
The murderers were condemned for the act more than one quarter century later to penal servitudes of many years, paid for of it however only a small part off.
