Mathias Stinnes (* 1790 in "† 1845 were as an industrial pioneer in the Ruhr district of the founders of the today's Stinnes AG.

Life

Mathias Stinnes is born as a third son of a Ruhr boat operator. As a young person he works as a Schiffsjunge on the ship of his father. Afterwards it is active as a boat operator assistant in coal transport on the Ruhr. Together with its brothers it creates a coal action in and becomes a successful entrepreneur. At the end of its life it leaves d.J. (1817-1853), Gustav (1826-1878) and Hugo (1842-1887) to its three sons Mathias the largest German merchant fleet, participation in forty mines as well as extensive Landbesitz.

Achievements

Mathias Stinnes creates 1808 an enterprise for navigation and coal trade. 1810 it acquires a coal place and a zweimastige Ruhraak and transports coal Ruhr and goods of all kinds Ruhr downward. Already 1820 belongs to the company Mathias Stinnes of four mines and 36 mine participation. At Rhine and Ruhr belong over 65 inland waterway crafts to the Stinnes fleet. Stinnes the exemption from duty of the Rhine navigation and 1843 obtains 1831 introduces it the steam navigation on the Rhine. The transportation by sea has Hamburg and Stettin as a goal. The owner of mine Stinnes introduces senkrechte the Abteufen of coal seams to Germany. The company consists of three columns: Production, trade and navigation. When Stinnes dies 1845, he was considered as largest shipowners between Koblenz and Amsterdam.
