Magirus Deutz is a former truck, bus and a fire-fighting vehicle mark of the Humboldt Deutz AG.
1936 transferred the company Humboldt Deutz from Cologne the ailing vehicle farmer and fire-brigade from elm C.D. Magirus AG to Ulm. The two companies complemented each other well: Magirus had produced, needed commercial motor vehicles however urgently diesel engines. Humboldt Deutz manufactured engines, manufactured however no complete commercial motor vehicles. The fusion made so the building possible of complete truck, penalties and fire-fighting vehicles.
In the time of the Second World War the united enterprise manufactured standardized truck primarily by the armed forces, those the model designations S330 (with all-wheel drive A330), S3000 (with all-wheel drive A3000), GS145 and S4500 carried. Also chaining and half-track vehicles were produced. Starting from 1938 the Humboldt Deutz became AG from Humboldt Deutz (KHD). 1940 disappeared the name Magirus provisionally, which became vehicles from Ulm under the name Humboldt Deutz, late Deutz sold. Still some years at the vehicle front however 1925 imported Magirus Logo - the representative point of the Ulmer over one "M "for Magirus - one attached. 1944 designed engineers with KHD production stage diesel engines with air cooling, which were built starting from 1948 into the internal trucks, penalty and fire-brigade car. Starting from 1949 the label name of the vehicles Magirus Deutz produced by KHD in the Ulmer Magirus work read.
The first Magirus Deutz truck after the Second World War was equipped with water-cooled diesel engines, which were replaced starting from 1948 however increasingly from the new air-cooled machines. The air-cooled diesel engines did not become in the post-war period a kind brand name of KHD, other manufacturer produced such engines. Instead of a a respectable exhaust wheel before the engine, which provided on the one hand for the cooling, on the other hand however also for a tidy going owl, was, which the Magirus Deutz equipped with it gave to trucks of itself. At that time the air cooling had clear advantages in relation to the water cooling: Since effective antifreeze for the cooling water was not yet invented, the cooling water had to be discharged by water-cooled engines always when there is danger of frost and be filled in before start-up of the vehicles again. When there was then the first antifreeze, these proved as very aggressive, which was detrimental to the durability of the water-cooled engines. Thus Magirus Deutz with air-cooled engines had a clear competition advantage. Also with the export into hot countries, because where no cooling water is, also none can cook.
