Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. [] is an Italian car manufacturer, that produces since 1964 sports cars in small series. Seat of the company is Sant'Agata between Bologna and Modena. The firm emblem shows a Kampfstier. Since 1998 the company belongs to AUDI AG.

History

1948 were created the company in center, Ferrara in Italy von Ferruccio Lamborghini (1916-1993) as enterprise for the production of tractors.

1959 were extended production by burners and air conditioning systems.

1962/63 created Ferruccio Lamborghini the company Automobili Lamborghini, as mark symbol selected it its asterisk - the bull. At this year with the development by sports cars one begins. The decision in addition is to decrease/go back the legend after on a dispute between the sports car lover Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari. Lamborghini, which at that time only successfully manufactured tractors, is to have been dissatisfied with its Ferrari and thereupon Enzo Ferrari a modification to have suggested. This, then continues to mean the legend, to it answered Lamborghini has more knowledge of tractors than from sports cars. Thereupon Lamborghini decided to prove the opposite to its adversary.

1964 was already manufactured the first copies of the legendary model 350 GTV. The achievement of the 12-Zylinders exceeded those of the ore rival Ferrari clearly. Sensation made however only with that 1966 introduced Miura, which - depending upon source correctly for Lamborghini - scratched the 300 km/h wall with its 385 HP in the strongest version. Since the Miura all models carry the names of famous Spanish Kampfstier Zuchten, thus also the new all-wheel-driven as well as the Gallardo. There was only one exception: COUNT oh. After this sports car had not been finished was a suitable bull name, in order to designate this car. After the legend one placed the cars now on the factory yard and summoned the staff together. One the coworker called at the sight of the car "COUNT oh" (on German "thunder weather") and thus had the car its name. The auxiliary designation of "LP", those with many models is contained in the name stands for "longitudinal posteriore" and designates the installation position along inserted engine.

Since 1971 Lamborghini builds also the high performance engines for offshore speedboats. These aggregates - per boat two pieces - carry approximately 1000 HP out. From 1986 to 1993 Lamborghini built besides the jeep LM002.

1972 come the enterprise into large economic difficulties. Ferruccio Lamborghini sells the tractor part at the Same Group (today Same Deutz drive). The sports car part changes the owner starting from 1972 several times:

Lamborghini built 1989 and 1993 also (quite unsuccessful) Formel-1-Motoren for the teams Lola, Lotus, Ligier, Minardi and Larrouse between.

After 1972 Ferruccio Lamborghini was predominantly concerned with cultivation of wine; the hochklassig working Weingut in Umbrien exists further under its name. Since 2004 becomes under the surname Lamborghini not only the exquisiten sports cars, but also coffee and Espressomaschinen sold.

The today's model pallet covers two basic models, which consists of the newer Gallardo as entrance and the Murcielago than Topmodell. Additionally both models are offered in the year 2005 also as Cabrio, with which a broader group of buyers is to be addressed.
