Louis Michel Aury (* approx. 1788 in Paris; "† 30 August 1821 on old Providence Iceland) was a French Pirat.

Life

Aury occurred around 1802 the French navy. Until it served 1810 on several war and pirate ships to it a rich prize permitted to acquire its own ship. It left North Carolina in April 1813 and reached in May Cartagena. There that received the command over the Kaperschiffe of the republic from Neugranada in the war of independence against Spain. In January 1816 it could break through the Spanish blockade of Cartagena and segelte with refugees from besieged city after Aux Cayes, Haiti.

Mexico

After a controversy with Bol­var over its payment it followed a group of adventurers from new Orleans, which wanted to participate in the fight against Spain in Mexican Texas. Aury left Aux Cayes on 4 June 1816 and reached Belize on 17 July. On the way the Kaperung of several ships succeeded. A majority of the prize went running with the attempt lost into the port of the later city Galveston. At the night to 7 September its Haitian crew meuterte, whereby Aury was wounded. The Meuterer sat down with enrich booty off to Haiti. Some days later the Mexican rebel and later ministers of foreign affairs Manuel de Herrera (1776 - 1831) came into the place, explained him partially to the Republic of and used Aury on 13 September 1816 than governors. Aurys Kaperschiffe made booty further plentiful in the gulf of Mexico. Its business associates from new Orleans sent troops for the conquest of Texas, whose commander Henry Perry refused however Aurys instructions to obey. Florida

After the return of a raid against the Spaniards Aury had to determine that Galveston had been occupied in the meantime by the Piraten Jean Laffite, it as its basis used. On 31 July 1817 he did without to the rebel Gregor McGregor, which wanted to attack the Spanish Florida von Amelia Iceland out his office in Galveston and followed. In December 1817 the American army from Florida drove it out.

Old Providence Iceland

Afterwards it could conquer old Providence Iceland on 4 July 1818 in the Karibik before the coast of Honduras, where it operated a successful trade with the booty of its raids. In August 1821 that is to have died there is, when its horse threw him off. It was also maintained, it had lived still 1845 in Havanna.

Trivia

Aury had its own Piratenflagge with a sword, a branch of olive and over it a laurel ring.
