London stick Exchange (LSE) with seat in London (Great Britain) is one of the largest and oldest stock exchanges in Europe. It was created 1801, its history hands back however into the year 1570, when the royal financial agent and advisor Thomas Gresham created these as "Royal Exchange" at own expense. The LSE is a corporation. It publishes the well-known FTSE share indices.

Possible assumption by the German stock exchange

Since end 2004 are discussions in full swing, which concern a possible assumption of the LSE by the German stock exchange. The LSE rejected however the offer of the German stock exchange as too low. That board is the opinion that 5.30 Pound for each share too low evaluate the enterprise. The German stock exchange AG is further interested; their assumption offer corresponds however to an impact of 52,3 per cent on the still uninfluenced share quotation of 348 pence on 22 October 2004, and 49.6 per cent on the average share quotation since July 2004.

The Federal association BWF of the security companies, which represents the brokers at the operational readiness level stock exchanges, faces an integration of the European stock exchanges openly. By possible increases however all market participants would have to profit to the efficiency and remain received the parquet trade. Concessions to the LSE, in order to avoid a rising of the purchase price, might not lead to a suction effect to London.

Who accomplishes the competition-legal examination in the case of a fusion, the national in London and Bonn would have to decide. The European Union-Wettberwerbs-Kommissarin Neelie Kroess said on 3 February 2005 before the economic committee of the European parliament that she would prefer this examination by her working group. Neither the German stock exchange nor the LSE fulfill the threshold values with the conversion, but can the national authorities such a case at Brussels deliver.

In order to regard as Germany another option open, the CDU budget expert expressed itself Steffen Kampeter also for fusion discussions with euroNEXT. It sees therein a good basis for a continental-European stock exchange platform; also negotiations between Frankfurt and Paris would absorb the Londoner price conceptions.
