A Lithotomus, also stone cutter was to in 19. Century exercised medical occupation, which was exercised often at the same time with the activity as Okulist (eye physician) and a surgeon. Its action area lay in the distance of blister stones.

Under the earlier nourishing habits, the formation of blister stones was a frequent result. For the removal of the too painful colic attacks and urination of preventing stones the services of a Lithotomus were taken up.

In addition two different procedures application found.

• In the infancy a manual adjustment of the stone took place via the Anus at the dam, where it was pulled out by means of a cut.
• With adult persons a procedure had to be used. Over a cut into the urethra below the Prostata the Lithotomus inserted its tools into the blister, in order to seize and pull by the blister neck the stone out.

Since that 19. Century was noticed this activity completely by surgeons, at the procedure changed up to the center 20. Century little, before modern methods of the urology introduction held.

The probably most well-known Lithotomus was Johann Andreas Eisenbarth.
