Listings (English directories, franz. annuaires) are collections of data of a certain kind. So one can to be called telephone and directories as also catalogs or television programs listings. All listings an arranging principle is the basis: Directories are arranged according to names, catalogs according to topics and television programs according to TV-channels and date.

In the Internet and enterprise-internal Intranets listings are used usually to collect user data central and to make applications available. Mostly reading the data of a listing service one accesses. Changes in the entries of this data base are very rare. For this reason listing service offers reading a substantially smaller access time than other data bases.
