Differentiation primary and secondary organization

For the solution of tasks of project not in principle its own project organization must be furnished. The project can be integrated also into the given organizational structure. This applies particularly to functionally aligned projects, like e.g.:

• Introduction on the market projects, which serve the introduction of new products at the market.

• Development projects, which are used for the development of new products in production.

• Computer science projects, which are furnished in the administration, in order to improve the information and communication technology.

At the line project organization a project in the respective functional area is integrated. The project manager is directly subordinated to the director/conductor of the specialized division. That can represent a disadvantage, since the project manager is dependent on the intentions of the head of specialist department.

Pro and cons

Advantages

• Improves co-ordination by technical allocation
• Capable coworkers do not have to be transferred to other specialized divisions
• Range resources are directly to the project at the disposal

Disadvantages

• The meaning of the projects becomes structure-organizational not clear
• The position and penetration strength of the project manager depend on the intentions of the head of specialist department
• Less identification of management with the project
