The Lindauer messenger (Italian: Corriere di Lindo), also called May countries messenger, was a transportation service between the cities Lindau and Milan. Goods, post office and travelers by the Lindauer messenger were transported from 1322 to 1824. The travel duration was more than 5 days and led by ship of Lindau after foot oh, by horse or car by the Rhine Valley, across the via Mala by horse or to foot across the and, after crossing of the Comersees, to Milan. The Lindauer messenger operated weekly between the two cities. For 122 guldens Johann Wolfgang von Goethe had used the Lindauer messenger for the crossing of the alps on the occasion of its first Italy journey 1788.
